Evan’s Chess Page – Pretty good personal site with lots of advice for beginners and intermediate players. Includes book recommendations and a mental checklist to avoid making bad moves. The author even offers to analyze one of your games.
MyChessSite.com – (Formerly Appie’s Chess Site). One of the better personal chess pages around, with various goodies, including a game with the author against the world, Kasparov-style.
